Like manger scenes on Christmas cards or paintings in the Lascaux cave, Colin Ruel has created an entire visual vocabulary for the cult of his imagination, influenced by shamanic practices, occult ritual and Catholic iconography. His subjects - bronze women, feather-haired shamans, dark sigils, spirits and diving birds- save, sacrifice, misguide, and redeem, on salvaged wood, stretched denim, and rain gutters_
